On Friday the students in 606 welcomed Gary back.
We went over the requirements for the assignment (see below) and let them practice on iMovie. After a few technical difficulties mainly dealing with the location settings on iPads, the students got their feet wet with the iMovie app.

Multimedia Memoir
Putting it all
Together
Objective:
Create a visual representation of your written memoir that shows your
understanding of elements of high quality narrative writing including: pacing
and transitions, dialogue and narration, vivid description, mood, thoughts and
feelings, and a clear sequence of events.
Your final
iMovie product must clearly include all of the following:
Setting
-Establish a
setting at the beginning of your iMovie show the time period and place of the
story.
10 pts
Who
-Images of
the characters.
-Symbols for
the main characters
-Quotes or
sayings that the main characters use or that show their personality as related
to the memoir
The
importance of each character to this memoir must be clear 20 pts
What
Your iMovie
must follow a logical sequence of events showing what happened and include
proper pacing and be free of gaps.
Use the
timeline you created as a story board to help with the flow of the iMovie.
20 pts
Thoughts and Feelings
As is your
written memoir, your thoughts, feelings and reactions to events should be
included throughout the piece. 10
pts
Significance
In your
written memoir, you were required to express the significance of this event.
In your
iMovie show why this was an important event or time period in your life. It
must be evident how this changed you or impacted your life or relationships
with the characters. 20 pts
Mood
Edit the
images of your settings or the action where appropriate to clearly express the
mood of the characters or story at that time. There need to be two clear scenes
where mood is evident. 10 pts
Other requirements:
Sound and
narration – you must include narration, dialogue or music where appropriate
throughout the iMovie. (This is part of final editing) 10 pts
What an exciting project, Ms. Gil! How did the students feel about using iMovie? Did you use any exercises that taught them basics? I'd love to hear more about what "technical difficulties" you ran into and how did you overcome them?
